Ups and Downs

The anthology Distant Passages: The Best from Double-Edged Publishing 2005 with my short story in it arrived yesterday. It looks great, and how awesome to read my story in print!

The moment was marred by a phone call however. I don't know who's telling tales, but someone from the place I was working until this week has stabbed me in the back. I had tried to leave without having hard feelings, but I guess someone didn't like that idea.

I called my best buddy for over 30 years, Starsky, and talked with her about it, so I feel some better. I'm glad I have one person I can talk to about personal things like that. I just wish she didn't live over 600 miles away. It gets stinkin' lonely sometimes...

She's home!

Not totally out of the woods -- she's on special food and medication, but she's home!
Here's the little snot I've been so worried about: Mocosita

A Long Night

My tiny chihuahua is still sick. She's at the vet overnight. The last time I left a pet at the vet, she didn't make it. So I am experiencing extreme anxiety.

I won't feel at ease until my little one is at home again!

Updates

Yeah -- I'm blonde...

My daughter took 6th place All Around for Level 5 State Championship, beating her own best personal scores not only in AA, but on bars, beam, and floor!

The dog is at the vet's -- we hope to pick her up tonight.

Random Thought...

I don't watch much TV but my daughter loves the TV show Full House so I end up listening to it quite a bit in the background. *sigh*

Which brings me to my point...

Has anyone else heard the similarity between Jesse's jingle in the Full House second season episode "It's Not My Job" and the song "Surf City" by rock group Crack the Sky?

Keeping My Cool

I had to take my little chihuahua to the emergency vet this morning -- they're keeping her overnight to give her an IV because she's severely dehydrated. How do these things happen so fast?
The house is so quiet without her. I don't like it.

My daughter will be home soon from church with my husband. I have to get her ready so we can leave for the Level 4-6 State Championship (my daughter's a JO gymnast for those who might not know).

So I have to be breezy about our dog being at the vet's to keep my daughter from worrying while at States, and not let my daughter see my nervousness about her competing (I'm not the relaxed type while at meets!) either.

This is going to be a very interesting day...
*sigh*

Hurrah!

My short story "The Last Hurrah" has been included in "Distant Passages" - Double-Edged Publishing's Best of 2005 anthology! And better yet, it's now available!

I'm back --

-- and you didn't even know I was gone!

I had no internet connection from Friday to Monday. My ISP halted service without giving us notice due to 'interference.' Yesterday they came out and replaced a splitter that they claim caused all the trouble. Now my connection is slower -- and intermittent. *snort*

Hm, can you imagine being on the way to work and being stopped because they claim your emissions are too high and impound your car. No notice, no apology, too bad if you can't get to work, and give us a call to set up a time to work on your car. We'll get it back to you in a few days to a week, whenever our schedule is convenient. Then you get back your car, your gas mileage is significantly reduced and your car stalls every so often.

And these guys have a monopoly on cable broadband in the area.
Gotta love it.

I think I'm safe here...

At least I hope so.

You see, I need to vent sometimes. But I've come to learn that usually I cannot vent to other writers. They generally don't just 'tsk tsk, I know how you feel' -- they have to give me advice. Some even go so far as to tell me what they think I should do, when don't have a clue what my plot is, or who my characters are.

Why can't venting be venting? I know how to ask for help or advice, and I'm not too proud to do so. I'm glad that, so far, I can vent on my own blog. For all three or so readers, thanks for letting me do so!

Fresh Motivation

Today I had a vision--no, not that kind. I saw at least one aspect of the culmination of my SF series. I now know more specifics about the direction it's headed. I still don't know exactly how events transpire and I dread some of the storylines I know I have to write, but seeing where things are headed is exciting!

I'm invigorated about my writing now!
